AVRE is celebrating 100 Years! Come and join us to celebrate this incredible milestone!
Dining in the Dark is a fundraising and awareness event that provides guests with a brief glimpse of some of the challenges that people with vision loss encounter in their day-to-day lives.
Our goal of Dining in the Dark is to raise awareness of the impact of vision loss and blindness and to generate funding for our programs and services provided throughout our nine-county service area.
During the meal, guests will wear blindfolds and learn blindness techniques from our vision services staff, and tablemates who may be blind or visually impaired. This unique dining experience will expand our guest’s appreciation of taste, smell, touch, hearing, and vision. Our hope is that our guests will leave with an appreciation and better understanding of the vision rehabilitation services we provide.
Our goal is to raise $100,000.00 to support our services, which are offered free of charge to individuals with vision loss throughout nine counties in the Southern Tier.

- Braised Beef Brisket: Pinot noir braised beef with baby carrots, charred brussels sprouts and four cheese scalloped potato
- Chicken Thigh Confit: Slow roasted chicken thighs, grilled broccolini, rosemary potato wedges with lemon garlic and parmesan cream
- Sweet Potato Couscous: Toasted couscous tossed with roasted sweet potato, dried apricots, sliced medjool dates, cannellini beans, orange zest topped with chopped pistachio nuts and fresh mint
- Puttanesca Cod Filet: Pan seared prosciutto wrapped cod filet, fresh tomato, garlic capers, kalamata olives, anchovy filet, white wine, crushed red pepper and fresh parsley
